Because the ABC gives these oxygen thieves oxygen. Our oxygen.

I think that maybe global warming isn't from supposed increasing CO2 levels at all.

It's from these oxygen thieves swiping the oxygen from the atmosphere. CO2 per centages then read higher in relation to what's left .

You can blame the ABC for this one. They have tried to beat up the story by making it look like the smoke laws will hurt the Aussie BBQ. Highly unlikely.

The laws are trying to prevent choking smoke that forms in valleys like the Tamar at Launceston during winter, from woodheaters. I suspect the only reason they mention "cooking appliance" in the regulations is to close a potential loophole as some woodheaters are also used as ovens and cooktops.

The problem is that many people don't operate woodheaters properly, they use green wood and don't get them up to heat quickly, which causes incomplete combustion, meaning a load of extra smoke.

Bad enough living next to one house whose occupants can't use a woodheater properly, but living in a steep sided valley with hundreds of homes, with still foggy air and an inversion layer filled with smoke - cancer time, if you don't drop from an asthma attack first.

A kid at the local school who does not have asthma in normal conditions had a bad asthma attack on a still winter day when the valley was full of smoke, during a school run.

If you want something to have a laugh about, compare these laws with what forestry is allowed to do, every autumn they have huge "regeneration fires" that make mushroom clouds like nukes have exploded. If the wind changes badly the smoke goes over suburbs and can be choking. No proposed laws against doing that though. Thankfully they are fairly careful about picking the weather these days.

PS winter bonfires and beers are an institution in the rural parts down here, if a bureaucrat tried to tell people to put a bonfire out because of a smoke law they'd end up in the bonfire.

What I believe happening more and more is lobby groups influencing govt to set up organisations with broad powers to investigate and make recommendations to govt about legislative change.

The govt quangos are simply attack dogs for social lobby groups via a sympathetic govt (usually a labor govt) who needs lobby group support to get into and retain power.

The ABC is the mouth piece for these social lobby groups plus being a lobby group itself.

I know who should be in the bonfire and it ain't the bureaucrats.

In this case it is people choking on smoke driving the push, places like Launceston's Tamar Valley are terrible in winter, thick smoke hangs there. Unfortunately the BBQ addition has gotten all the public attention, it is likely just an attempt to stop loopholes around using "cooking devices". Highly unlikely anyone is going to swoop on an Aussie BBQ.

Still think that ABC chairman should be registered on the Aus parliamentary register as a lobbyist.
