Had a crack yesterday with a few of our premier sports fish the ox eye herring.
The usual few snags and dodgy casts amongst the hits from rats adding to the pace at which I went through the few that I'd bought out for a swim. I had a few decent Barra on that were keen on them... easily dusting me in the snaggy holes. With a couple pulling hooks and snapping 45lb leader like cotton in the dense timber I also had a massive toga on for a few seconds too, but only stinking catfishes landed a couple were pretty big too. . Don't will worry I'll be going back with a more substantial setup shortly.

Couple of pics of some of the barra I had upgraded from already during todays vibe action flicking snags out near snag central with locked up 50lb on the baitcaster proving to be the way it's done. I pulled a few sets of hooks but generally a good day with easily 20 barra up to the mid 70's landed in a few hours
still got 2 stinkin catt!es on the vibe too though ...

Wasted a few hours a buffalo ck after an appointment at the RDH. then went out to Lee point all the way until sunset the other day for 1 rock cod and a follow up by a barely legal baz before the epic trip above this post ... do the miles get the smiles proving itself once again. Found a lure but gave it back to the bloke that'd lost 15 min ago...... it was the highlight of the day. even the blokes soaking livies were not getting anything. ...hmmmmmmm almost a bit of a worry hey... top stuff fishing in our flogged out Darwin harbour with a 30cm rock cod to take home if you were that desperate . . . I 'spose you get that with our regular crew hitting it up every day they get a chance though as fishing gains more and more popularity amongst the masses....
Good lures and a bit of dedication to get a bit further away from the regularly flogged spots will get you better results IMO as proven by my regular trips out to better areas.

Went for a long slow troll around the block on Saturday intending to catch a Mack for the Brag Mat Comp. First hook up I thought I had a contender but the bugger had a smile only its mother could admire!
After negotiating all the sharp bits I tried to swim it on the gaff but it wasn't playing so now I had some fresh bait.
Second hook up was a small Spotted Mack that had eyes bigger than its belly and took the lure at 10kph.
With fresh bait I decided to go and fish the wrecks for an hour and landed on the Twin Hulls for a few bust offs and a 3.2kg Black Spot for dinner.

I think this guy got a little lost, got him on the reef about 15kms off of point Jenny on Monday. Fishing very quiet, tides were a bit too neap but thought I'd take advantage of the break in the wind.
