Re: Good Aussie economic news
Can't see much in the way of good news there.
Iron Ore and coal exports rose significantly 4% and 6% respectively. That's a bucket of money increase in exports.
Without those exports of resources, we'd be in a trade deficit 'cos we sure as hell aren't exporting manufactured products like we used to.
Why? "Cos the cost of energy in producing those goods makes it uneconomical to manufacture despite the weakening of the aussie $.
Investment in any area where energy costs are unknowns is down the tube.
I heard Steve Conroy praising Josh Freiydenburg this morning.
Not often you get a senior labor figure praising a senior member of cabinet.
Traditionally, praise from the opposition is the kiss of death politically.
I don't know why the Greens, Labour and the Libs don't amalgamate.

I don't understand how Chinese retailers can post their stuff to Aussie buyers for free.
How can Aussie retailers compete?

Free for the purchaser maybe but I'd suggest that the Chinese Govt pays/subsidises any postage.
The Chinese have a wider strategy than the capitalist system.
Their strategy is aimed at whole of country interests while the capitalist strategy is for sectional interests.
The sectional "debt" that needs to be addressed in our capitalist system is the driver of strategy. There is no sectional "debt" in China. Simply the Party. So the strategy is simple.
What we need here is a nice benevolent dictator in Aus. Joh's gone but I guess we have Pauline now.
President Pauline has a nice ring to it?
