Bare sandy island

Post by mickkk »

Had a fantastic trip out to bare sandy island with the family. What a spectacular place. We got very lucky with the weather, with only one brief storm after we were all packed up. A lovely breezy night with lightning off in the distance. We didn’t spend a great deal of time fishing, but I did manage to get a rippa 70 cm goldy.
By far the best thing was the turtles. Whilst we didn’t see any nesting (still too early for that). On the low tide right next to the island we literally seen hundreds of turtles. 10 seconds wouldn’t go by with out seeing another one. We were drifting along in 1m of water and at times there were 10 swimming under the boat. Also seen two pods of dolphin gust cruising past, it was a pretty special weekend. Will definitely be heading back there.

We camp just back from the top of the first dune. I thought that would be enough, didn’t bother with any other croc preventions. Thought that would be enough. Planning of heading back there a bit, maybe I should do a bit more. There is that many turtles in the area I don’t think a croc would go hungry there.
