BAUS 52cc chainsaw price increase

Post by Matt Flynn »

I bought one of these last year for $139, or at least same brand, and it looks the same, but with the bigger 20" bar ... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-BAUS-52c ... 1263771117

And it's a great chainsaw.

But then I looked it up this week because I need new chains and the saw is now priced at $1200 for the 18".

Don't know if they added a bit of gold plating or what :D

There is a similar looking model called a TDK saw for $99 with a bigger motor (if specs are accurate) ... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-TDKMAN-6 ... 2747490910?

Got no problem with the BAUS saw but that price increase is curious.

I've ordered the TDK as backup and will report on it. Be interesting if it is the same saw.

These cheap saws have worked well for me, the chains don't stay sharp too long but at $10 a pop who cares, I've tried sharpening them but it is hardly worth the effort.

Dunno if expensive chains would last much longer. Carbide chains are $100+ so would have to outlast 10 cheap chains.

I figure enough people use chainsaws that it is worth a mench here.

It’s something to do with ebays fee structure. If they pull the add off because they are currently out of stock, and then re list when back in stock then they are charged extra fees.
But if the change the price to a stupid price until they get stock back in, then no one buys it. Then they drop the price again when they are restocked again.

Bought the TDKMAN saw, goes well, bit heavier and harder to start, altho starts OK once run in.

Have also ordered a 72cc saw with 22" blade, to make life easier with the bigger logs. Only $100 delivered, cheaper to replace than fix.

Gave the 72cc model a run today, a beast! And very easy to start. Chews the juice tho.
