Start of the 2017 / 2018 Monsoon

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Start of the 2017 / 2018 Monsoon

Post by dannett »

I am going to put my cock on the line and declare that by popular demand Santa will be delivering us a monsoon season for Christmas. And if we are all good boys and girls he might let us have it a couple of days early.

Early hours of Friday the 22nd is my bet.

That's seriously upping the ante betting on the only toy that's ever truly going to be yours :)

My Christmas wish is for big rain on the 27th December so I get more days of opportunity on the first 4 day long weekend in a long while but I better have the Monday off from the boat I suppose or it may as well Monsoon till Easter.

Well someone just couldn't hold their lollies this morning and now it looks like Santa won't be bringing us a monsoon.

Ripped through and dropped heaps in Winnellie this morning but missed East Arm....
That's twice this week that a storm has built and travelled East to West (Bonaparte & Darwin)- a good sign for good rainfall as long as it's from the East.

Crimson Finches started building a nest in our Bismarkia this morning. Monsoon to be delivered in about 12 days time.

The Finches are never wrong.

I think that my early prediction won't be too far off, but a tropical low system might from south of Bali and head off down the west coast stealing our rain (as they usually do).

Well, here it is, though about 12 hours earlier than I expected. It will be absolutely lack lustre too as it will be immediately consumed by cyclonic systems forming to our west over the next few days, one on Christmas day and one between East Timor and Darwin on the 27th. Both will head south west and 90% of the rain will fall over the sea. Hopefully the rest of the season will be better.
