Something smelly about this. Gunner said in the 'Tinny' interview that he hadn't even contemplated DUI on the water until the alcohol report came out three days ago, then he goes and implements it the same day without consultation with anyone? WTF?????? :bs: :bs: :bs:

So everything Justice Ryley says is automatically gospel? One mans opinion? I smell a rat!!!!! :fubird: :fubird: :fubird:

not sure how they can police it correctly.
If you blow numbers on the road you have to wait 20 mins and blow again then you are taken to a station or the test van for further testing
Unless they have some sort of mobile station on the water how do they do that.
what do they do with your boat if you get arrested, just drop the anchor and you swim back next day to pick it up???
More than likely your deckies will have had more to drink than you.

Im opposed to the b.a.c limit for overnight reasons.

I couldnt care less if they posted a breatho at every ramp 24/7. If im driving a car, im under the limit.
Police have powers to punish someone being dangerous in a boat already i believe. If you want culpability, make everyone print your trailer rego on your boat and be done with it.

SO if there is no reason onto at the ramp the deckie will have to stay sober as well, as someone will have to control the boat when the other is reversing the trailer. Don't for one minute think the cops will give any leeway on this either.

Im not much of a drinker so none of this will impact on me. I spend a fare amount of time on the water and have never had a close call due to a p...ed boat driver however I've seen plenty of instances of boats lobbing up at the ramp with driver and crew full of p..s. I agree with most of the comment that this is an over reaction to a non existant problem. You can't really compare the boating environment with motor vehicles. Id rather see police resources focus on those morons who choose to drive home after fishing whilst full of p..s.

Agree with Lats , most of our overnighter trips we definitely over 0.05 but never poop faced.

I find it fairly easy to consume a box of heavy beers in 12 hours fishing. That just 2 an hour for 12 hours which is not that over the top in this heat and humidity. If I was breath tested at any stage of the day I would be over the limit. When we anchor for the night we usually have a big cook up and share a bottle of red. The next day the person driving stops drinking as we make sure he is 0.00 for he drive home later that day. Would not care if there a police presence 24/7 at the ramp as someone in my boat would be under the limit to drive us home.

This is why we do overnight, and this is why we live in the N.T.

Get fuuu Labour : :fubird: :bs:

I have changed my position on this. I did vote yes, I don’t drink much anyway, and don’t think I would have been over whilst boating.
However it is very hard to argue the point when there is no evidence of damage being done by drunk boaters. What behaviour are these laws trying to change. I understand changing the laws to be able to beath test if there’s been an accident. Which they did.
What I do think is utter bs is gunner getting on the TFT, and saying “don’t worry, we are bringing in these laws, but we don’t intend on doing random breath testing.” What a croc of poop.
It’s very simple, if you want to clamp down on this. Get coppers checking safety gear, catch, AND BREATH TEST. Never understood when I have been checked that they didn’t throw the bag on me whilst I’m there, would only take another minuet.
I have always be against the argument of ”this is the thin edge of the wedge” but I do think this is the thin edge of the wedge. It’s a law getting put in place even tho there is no evidence (that I know of) of damage caused by the actions.
To fight it, I think we need to be a little organised. Afant, clubs, fff, fishing comps (even tho they are the clubs, this really threatens their business model) tackle shops, etc all need work together to stop this.
I think we need to pressure the clp to change their position on this. If we can get a difference between the party’s, then we might have 1/2 a chance. If labour thinks it will have All fisherman voting with the clp over this one issue, it’s very easy for them to backflip like they seem to be doing with dan Murphy’s.

It would be very interesting to see what’s afants offical position on this. They seemed to be sitting of the fence somewhat.

Down the Daly, I choose to leave the Boat in the River at Night, unatended, with the chance of being burgaled, to not have to Drive.
You have 3 or 4 Beers, in the a Couple of Hours, and you can't be sure. Probabley never over .05, but don't want to take the risk.
I have never had a problem on the River, possibly I have witnessed situations, where maybe Other People on Board maybe enjoying themselves, But I havn't had a problem with Skippers.

Request a blood test, will give you plenty of time to sober up, mind you I think it works fine now .05 in ya car on way home, easy to police, dangerous boaters no issue but what if they are sober and dangerous?? Just sayin

cheers Craig
