Finniss River 23/24.3.17
Thought I would post about our Finniss River trip late this week as I enjoy reading other lads posts for info. We hit up the river on day break Thursday, after navigating the channel at the mouth on low tide, we managed to snag 3 or 4 just legal barra from the first few feeder creeks, not a bad start to the day!! It got a bit quiet after that and we trolled the mouth with around 8 other boats to no avail for a couple of hours. It was decided to try the rock bar on the incoming, a place I had actually never been up to. We decided to troll the area just below it and what a great decision it was!! for the next 3 hours it was awesome!! every troll resulted in either a hook up and drop or fish boated!! biggest went 92cm but my mate dropped one that was alot bigger than that!! we were content with that effort so decided to head to Dundee for some R&R. getting out of the mouth was HECTIC, in 1.8m of water with 2.5m waves, breaking straight into the mouth!! once we got into some deeper water it cleaned up a little, but still a very rough ride home!!
Fished the Friday after some dramas at the ramp with my Hydraulic ram, low on fluid, learnt a few new tricks anyway!! Friday was completely different, same spot, same lures at the same time of the tide for 2 rats??!! Hard going unfortunately, everyone else we spoke to was similar. The trip home was lovely and smooth, which was a great way to end the trip!!
The ramp was awesome- not crowded and everyone doing the right thing!! Heard it was rather crowded there today??
Cheers,

Great report, great trip as well as some nice fish
Funny how they can disappear the next day! Just not hungry.
Good to see a few nice fish from there
Need to get down myself and out on the blue
Soon I hope

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!
Especially when you can see them!

Hi there,
Heading to Dundee this weekend - anybody have any GPS points for finding the channel to get into the mouth? We found it really tricky last time and stupidly did not plot points!
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks!
Kelly
