G'day all,

Just after some different techniques you use to anchor your boat off the bank when camping.

Want the boat to still sit in water at low tide and also to be able to pull it in to shore from the bank at any stage of the tide.

Thinking some sort of a ring set up on the anchor with rope running through it and both ends tied off to the bow, then tying the rope off at the bank. Pull one side to retrieve boat, pull the other to pull boat away from the bank and out towards the anchor. Kind of makes sense in my head anyway

There's gotta be an easy way....

Cheers

you are pretty close but this is how i do it

Its easy. Just think of it as an endless rope with one end tied to the stern and the other to the bow. Doesn’t work in flowing rivers etc
Just need a long length of rope (100m) , a good D shackle (stainless is smoother) and 2 anchors
1. Tie end off to the stern cleat
2. attach a D shackle to the anchor chain end and drop in suitable depth
3. Now pass the free end of the long rope from the stern out thru the D shackle
4. Drive to the shore and set bow anchor up the bank/bank out of tide reach.
5. Pass the free end of the rope thru the beach anchor and fix to the bow cleat.
6. Pull on the stern end of the rope and the boat will reverse out to where the stern anchor is set.
7. Tie off the bow line allow a bit of slack
8. Remember that the chain holds the anchor into the ground so don’t pull too tight.
9. Camp on shore and have a drink or 10 in the knowledge that your boat will be there in the morning.
If you use a break out clip on the anchor, tie it off so it doesn’t break out or your boat might drift away

Yep I use the same system as nomad ,but in reverse so when I pull the boat in I can step onto the back transome without having to pull myself up over the bow or wade into croc country .

I like to have the stern near the bank easier to get in and to drag it forward if you have to. If the bow faces the sea it is harder to sink in bad weather I have a winch so I can pull boat forward. This is an old debate like the chicken or the egg

This is what can happen if you get it wrong!!

Make sure you anchor far enough off-shore that you don't end up on a steep bank on the low tide :banghead: :bricks:

ooooops , Yeah Swoffa I've seen similar and was going to add a comment about sounding the anchor area well before setting up . Also be aware of any BIG rocks that may be in the anchor zone. We camped up one night and was waken to a horrible crunching sound from one of the boats . My mates 7.2 was hung up on a rock stern end with the twin motors down . Within 15 minutes of outgoing boat got flooded bow first and then flipped on its side . ( don't leave the Motor"s down)

It's a good system to use but you need to really know what the tide is doing and what is under the boat .
I wouldn't actually use this with big spring tide movements . And you do need a LARGE sand anchor and with plenty of quality rope .

PS ,I still sleep on the boat any way , just in case. :titanic:

Cheers

There is more to this photo than meets the eye, There are no marks from a rear anchor rope
They must have gold in the bow to stop it rising with the tide and it looks like if it was rear anchered it would have been quicker

Always use the golden rule for anchoring ie 3:1.
3 times rope length to the depth of water. I have 100m of rope on board for normal situations.

Always the best option on big tides, I've seen too many pix of boats hanging down steep banks, upside down etc. And not just newbie boats either :D
