55cm on a Gold Bomber in 2006 at Knotts Crossing in Katherine. Just happened to be my first day in the Territory so I remember it very well.

1988 I came to Pine Creek doing some exploration, had read so many stories about Barra, had a day off and went for a drive down the, road to Kakadu and the South, took a while on the old dirt road past Moline mine and was an experience.

Got to the south and drove along a bit down an old track, Walked Down the bank and onto a sandy area, saw a little eddy on the other bank behind a snag and flicked a little Stalwart in there, bang! First Barra, 20cm I reckon, savage little bugger,
caught over 30 that day up to 65 :-)
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

Fishing Roper River in Aug 96.In a little 11ft tinny with a 15hp on the back.Live baiting in the snags near the Hogdson. We had a tree branch going straight across the middle off the boat, when we landed it i reached over the branch for a big High 5 with the brother which snapped and nearly put the both of us into the drink we nearly shat ourselfs.Think it went 63cm ate it that night bl..dy beautiful. Was also the first time I ate Barra.
Have a good laugh about it now and how clueless we were on the fishing front.Dont think things have changed much.

1957 in Lion Ck run-off behind Rocky airport.

Got 3 of the little buggers on a bamboo whacko rod with a little live fish under a plonk bottle cork with green string line.

Each would have been maybe 15 - 16 inches in length but monsters to me at 10 yrs old. Only ever caught Powertail before that.

Still got an old bamboo whacko rod but not my original.

2001 off the Barrage at shady camp, was up here on holidays from NSW, no idea about the rules, walked out on the barrage with my yellow belly gear and a $5 kmart special bomber knock off, first cast caught a 60 something cm barra, got growled at (fairly) by the ranger who pointed out the big "no trebles" sign!

Lucky he could tell I was stupid not criminal and didn't give me a fine once I chucked the fish back.

Mine was in Onslow 2012 before Wheatstone took over. I was working night shift and would take off after work for a couple of hours and fish 3 mile creek. I found that if you walked across the creek at low tide you could fish the next creek along which was alive with fish. I hooked a 58cm. Took it home and my brother cooked it up, hes the better cook. That fish made me like eating fish again. First time eating barra and it blew me away.

First one was back in early 70'S with the old man on a trip up to the Fitzroy to visit relatives. Moving up to Mackay from the Goldy 2 years ago saw me fish again for Barra after many years of not, and after coming home from a big 10 day 12 hours a day fishing trip to Hinchinbrook with not a Barra, landed a 65cm 400m from the Seaforth boat ramp on 3rd cast!! Go figure. That filled in a gap of about 15 years between Barra. So a second coming I guess.

My first was at a place called Willems Pool a freshwater part of the Fitzroy River between Broome n Derby on a boat with a cherabin i think it was around the 50 cm mark

Always fished with live bait for barras then i moved up here and its all lures plus i now have a boat and don't sit on the bank anymore, still trying to work out the lure fishing although when you do get a hit that feeling of excitements pretty awesome
