Any sugestions on staying attached to a Rod

Post by jpb15 »

Hi,
I have a problem.
My elderly Father likes his Fishing, but likes to "Rest his Eyes" at the same time.
He has already lost 3 Rods overboard, plus we have been lucky enough to retrieve a couple.
I can see, the NEXT decent size Fish he catches, the $ 400 Rod will go Overboard, which is only 12 Months old.
Are there any "easy to use" attachments, that are available?
I know I can just tie a Rope to it, but he won't even accept that he is likely to lose another Rod, and so what ever I find, must have some other advantage.

Thanks for your help.
I called into FOW, and asked about a "Self Inflating Rod Saver", and they laughed at me.
But they did suggest a Rubber Ball Type thing, that pushes on to the Butt of the Rod, and allows the Rod to float.
Normally $29.00, they gave it to me for $ 25.00.
Probably expensive, for what it is, but Cheap if it works.

The only problem I can see with it, the Rod will no longer fit into the Rod Holders we currently use.

The "Getterback" device that Blinky has found relies on moisture to activate a self inflating balloon to float the rod up.

I tried one of these, unfortunately they are only suitable in dry climates, even our humidity sets them off and rain is a sure fire trigger
.
Another way is to use one of these, http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/retractable-dog-lead, more intrusive but they work.
