Hey Folks,
I watched a fishing show last weekend of some guys lure fishing Tassie for Bream.
They were using a variety of lures as they went up the river (catching stacks of Bream)
Then they came to a spot that had low hanging overgrowth as well as banks that had been undermined.
This is when they started to "Skip Cast".
Like skipping a stone on water, it allowed them to skip their lures under the overhang. They were getting a couple of meters past what you thought would have been possible.
How many times do you see a snag.......and KNOW there must be a fish in there.......If only you could get a cast in.
How many lures left in trees because you KNOW there must be a fish in there.
Like skipping a stone, the lure stays low. These guys were skipping their lures under overhangs that were 4 or 5 inches off the water.
I will be practicing this as its applicable to down here, and will be a bonus when I'm up there next run-off for my Barra sabbatical.
There are a few vids of this on YouTube

Anyone try this before?

Re: Skip Casting
Great technique for overhanging foliage. I use it down South when chasing bass around snags or bream around moored yachts.
Works best with lightly weighted plastics, weedless preferably. And high moisture content plastics like gulps are easiest to master.
Rod tip low to the water with an underarm action or sideways pitch.
"Bow and Arrow" style casts are also great to use in the same scenarios. Youtube a tutorial.

Re: Skip Casting
It Works well with the z-man soft plastic frogs and unweighted shads.
Almost like slapping your lure on the surface.
I fish light so I get bricked quite often but it's exciting to see your lure get smashed!!
Almost forgot about barra fishing this year after such a poor wet season!

Re: Skip Casting
we all skip. when you cast and then the breeze , current movement at an instance don't feel right , you skip cast. "skip" is just a word . it entices fish to surface strike, good for getiing in snaggy butoms
its the same as popper luring.
skipping is an art on its own.

Re: Skip Casting
Can be done with hard bodied lures just peg them in there
Tight lines 'n' keep the shiny side up people.
