Hi,
Was wondering if could get away with a 55lb electric instead of 80lb on a 4.8 polycraft.
Anybody have any experience with electric motors on one of these boats?
Cheers,
Matt
55lb or 80lb electric for 4.8 polycraft with 70hp?

I reckon you will be right with the 55.
I had one on a 4.8m, ( not poly tho) but would be similar weights and held it no worries. Should be fine with 55

I have a 55 on a 5m
It holds - but if there is a bit of swell - it will take us off the mark

Go the 80 lb mate if you can afford the difference in motor, additional battery and 24v charger.
Had a 55 for my 455 which was good in the creek but poop on the blue with any 4 m movement.
I now run 80 on my 485 trailcraft and its great. Holds in all conditions.

I've got the 55lb on my boat. 4.9m quinny. Holds in most situations - springs on the Daly etc as long as the outboard is trimmed up to decrease the drag. Holds in big tides offshore most of the time. Swell normally being the problem. Would like 80lb of thrust but personally can't justify the costs of going to 24Volt.

I've got a 4.3 Stessel with a Yamie 40hp 4st and I've used both 55 and 80. I'm currently using a 80 and wouldn't go lower. Gets me out of most tidal situations and holds well.
The extra batteries hasn't seem to make a difference. On a flat day I've gotten 45-50k/hr on my sounder
