Re: FFF Sweetwater 2016 - Southern Freshwater Round
Had my first shot at the Southern Freshwater round last week. Put the inflatable in for a 12km float down a forest river, drank all my beers, fell in twice, busted my ninja rod, got no fish, but had a ball.

Great stuff Matt, nice piece of water!
12k is a long way....attempted to to 10 in a yak a couple of years ago, got through 500m in the first 4hrs...so many likely looking snags...soo little time.

Re: FFF Sweetwater 2016 - Southern Freshwater Round
Funny you should say that, about half of the 12k was slow deep pools I had to row, and at the end of the day the wind was blowing against me ...
The river was down, so there was a fair bit of walking the riffles.
Drank half the river after the beer ran out.
Saw one good trout at the mouth of a creek, and dropped two little tackers, dismal for 12km of water. I've seen multiple trout in pools in tiny UK creeks, and four under a road bridge on a tiny NZ creek, so I am hoping this was just a bad day. Did see some activity at dusk when I pulled the boat out.
Was a hot day (that's probably the ration for the year). Going to try lighter line and some plastics next time.

4lb fluro leader max and if all else fails throw some powerbait trout nuggets at the problem; just to build the confidence....

Re: FFF Sweetwater 2016 - Southern Freshwater Round
Last week of the brown trout season, so had to pull my finger out. Walked into a small rainforest river, plenty of water there despite the drought and Tassie's hydro lakes being almost empty.
Was a long walk in and the 4WD part was interesting.
Got small browns, but nothing worth the brag mat. Hooked a good fish in fast water, it swam down the river, you can't put much hurt on with 2kg line ...
Waded a long way in gum boots until my feet were near frozen, didn't fall in tho, left the six-pack at home this time
Going back with the fly rod, a great bit of water, hardly a footprint to be seen away from the track.

Re: FFF Sweetwater 2016 - Southern Freshwater (Private Round
Season just opened, river has finally fallen, so took the kids for an arvo session.
Was a promising start to the new season, with several follows, including one BIG fish.
Dropped two, and got this one.
Didn't break any ninja rods or fall in, but my daughter was stung on the bum by a bull ant, so we had to leave a little early.
She was brave though, the bull ants down here are like Sherman tanks.
I'll have to try those Powerbaits NBN.

Nice looking fish Matt, about time
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!
Especially when you can see them!
