FFF in Tasmania 6: Salmon-o-mundi

Post by Matt Flynn »

Having got the FISH FINDER book out over Christmas, had some fun camping with the kids in January in north-east Tassie, lot of fun for them around the camp catching bluetongue lizards, petting tame wallabies, and God forbid, even catching a couple of fish off the beach. These Aussie salmon sure go.

Camped near St Helens and Stumpys Beach, magnificent country if you ignore the fact there are no barraz. Did find a pile of big Atlantic salmon heads (escaped farmed fish) in the sand dunes, seems the feral and sterile have infested the remote Tassie bluewater, a sign of the times!

You should at least pick up the award for the best dressed, Matt.

Some fun at last Matt, well done

Kids are smiling
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

I used to live near Mt Field. Great spot. Plenty of fishing to be had within a short drive

Camped at Stumpy's Beach nomad. Beautiful blue water and white sand. Even got three days of blue sky, must be near a record.

Either it is summer down there or you are all well and truly acclimatised to the weather. Man, your daughter is brave, bare footed! My feet nearly snapped off like having them in dry ice when I had sea water run over them at Bicheno! Nice fish Matt! :applause:

My missus wants to buy me a GoPro...she said I need it... It's like a black box recorder for fishos...

Well done Matt and good to see the kids getting into the outdoors as well
You can keep the cold wether down there
I know salmon are not even in the class of a swampdog as far as eating goes but pound for pound as a sportfish they beat barra hands down IMO
The past is history, the future is mystery, the moment is a gift and that's why it's called the present

Thanks Shaggs. The salmon do go, but baz are baz!

I put kids onto another couple of coutta and a flathead down the river today.

Funny thing was, the kids rejected the rods, and asked me to tie line and a hook to long sticks they found, which they dangled over the jetty edge. It was a bit of a re-education about fishing, because they enjoyed this much more than using the rods.
