Re: Mini mini
Are you heading from the South or Driving out?
Its 90km down the South and 60km of open water from the mouth to the entrance to mini mini. The pro's are smashing it now so its not what it once was.

Re: Mini mini
I have made it clear in the past I don't agree with a lot of the barra netting practices that have been reported on this forum however the fact is they are currently licenced to net barra. Looking at it objectively and t realistically they are being pushed out of the popular places (Chambers ,Fog bay) that they used to hit, they will just move to the next closest source of product as a matter of economics. This impacts the groups of fishoes (like me) that had the means to push further away from the masses to remote trips into areas which perhaps weren't so economic to net before, now the commercial guys are compelled to condense their effort in these fringe areas.Maybe some of them are guilty of doing the wrong thing in the wrong way sometimes, (even many times) but they do have an entitlement under legislation and people in the NT and interstate still think they need to eat wild caught barra as a smart option.
Its the laws and peoples perception of aquaculture fish that that need changing. Take the economics out of it and it will stop in a heartbeat.
Oh by the way I was also going to Mini Mini for 4 days soon but am rethinking.

Re: Mini mini
The joke came from the government. They bought 2 licences out. The pro that owned them just moved down the coast and ran the other 2 licences he had. Didn't stop any of the fishing pressure just moved it out of sight more!

Re: Mini mini
Still get fish there FFF1964. It never was really renowned for lots of big fish but good numbers. The area is fairly big and there is a lot of exploring to do. In my eyes it's a bit like Darwin harbor in size and the way it fishes. In saying that there are some areas that hold bigger fish and is probably worth the trip if you can get the weather. This allows you to get out from the islands and explore. We fished it for 4 days last year and only saw about 5% of what I would have liked to do over there.

Re: Mini mini
Have fished it twice before. Once around 2 years ago(didn't do so well) and once around 6 years ago and cleaned up on all species of fish! The second time we went it was freezing cold even at lunch so I put the bad fishing down to the weather but we're the pro netters working it then, I did see 2 crab boats. The system is so massive,we drove their and camped at coburg, and even with the locals, they still had to mark what creeks we were coming into/going away from because they had no Saunders but had fished it many times before which I thoight was quite funny

Re: Mini mini
Try the rocks at the mouth, southern bank. In calm weather good barra get caught. Also plenty of rocky reef extending seaward from there too with snapper. Any deep holes in creeks are worth chucking a bait or jig into. I've been there loads but it's a massive system that would take years to find all the spots. I too have noticed it is not fishing as well as it once did.
Beaches near the rocks at mouth are usuable for fuel drops. Island at the mouth of the South we call it Mud Island is also a spot for fuel drop. If weather is cr.p hug the coast the worst will be at the Mouth of the East. We mostly fish it in the Build-up.
