Someone asked in the chat whether the sewage outflow hurts Buffalo Creek. This 2012 report says yes ... http://www.track.org.au/news/2012/years ... falo-creek
There have been fish kills in the past from low oxygen. Eat the crabs at own risk, I guess. Poo is not the issue, other nasties can build up around sewer outfalls because not everything people put in sewers should be there.

Nice if they put dates on their reports.
Darwin is lucky it has huge tides or there would probably have been an island form off Larrakeyah
Of course, Buffalo is still a great place to fish at times, mullet love "green water" and barra love mullet.
More poo for Buff Creek?

They were just talking on abc radio yesterday about changing the timing of the outflow from a constant dribble to matching the tides and only releasing on the springs so the creek gets a better flush. I'm not sure double the amount half the time would be better or worse?
fish are skinny, the ocean is fat

Its a lot more noticeable on the neaps though. The water goes bright green on the lows. I couldnt see it being any worse letting more out on the springs instead of over the neaps as well. At least the flow is stronger on springs and should pump it through the system quicker. With neap tides the water in the system really only flows up and down the creek and does'nt empty to sea at all. Not pumping on the neaps would allow a small window for the water to clear a bit as well giving every thing a break.
In any event it should all be pumped out to sea any way! buffalo is one of Darwin's favourite and and most used creeks.

Yes, I wouldn't eat a Buff Ck crab in a fit. Shellfish pick up the bad stuff, crabs eat shellfish.
Good if the NT Govt could test a few crabs and shellfish in there and let the public know the facts.

Re: More poo for Buff Creek?
Buff creek is that buffalo creek at the end of Lee points road and turn right? is that the same location?
Is there a Poo farm located there? I thought that was a larrakeyah?
Soo... is it safe to catch fish there and eat it!?
Or is it do so at your own risk?
What is being done, if anything to treat or rectify this issue?
When is the best times to fish there and when is the worst? as wont go when its the worst. haha
Cheers
