XXXX Gold NT Billfish Classic 2014 results

Post by Matt Flynn »

The Darwin Game Fishing Club has released preliminary results of the XXXX Gold NT Billfish Classic after Day 3.

There were 21 teams chasing $10,000 in prizes.

Champion Team: Let Loose - 1 marlin and 1 sailfish - 2350 points
Daniel James, Jarrod James and Bradley Fitton
Runner Up >8m - Billistic - 2 sailfish - 1500 points
Dave McCubben, Tim Pallot, Bjorn Farley
Runner Up <8m - Classic Sails - 2 sailfish - 1500 points
Trevor Robb, Cameron Briscoe, Greg Meyer

Champion Angler: Daniel James - 1600 points

DGFC says the results will be confirmed tonight following viewing of photos.

Weather was good for the comp.

Preliminary Day 2 Result

Only one sailfish tagged, by Jarrod James of Let Loose. Bills to Pay played a marlin for two hours before losing it. Classic Sails, the current leaders hooked two billfish, one sailfish and one marlin, before loosing them. The sailfish was tagged near the Bathurst Trench.

Preliminary Day 1 Result

Three billfish tagged, the first sailfish at 11am by Trevor Robb of Classic Sails. His teammate Cameron Briscoe joined him 45 minutes later with another sailfish. The only other sailfish tagged for the day was by David McCubben of Billistic. All were caught in the Bathurst Trench.

Comment - looks like another fairly lean comp in terms of billfish numbers, but the weather was good and hard huntin' brings out the best in the teams.

If anyone has pix of the event, post 'em up.

I fished in team Bills to Pay we had a great time fishing this year as usual it was pretty slow.

congrats to Let Loose great work

Day one for us saw us go all day with out seeing a fish

Day two we got a hook in to a sail witch didnt stay in long at around one oclock we hooked a black marlin and fought this fish for over two hours before the leader finally rubbed through.

Day three we raised 3 sails but didnt get any of them to eat

No points for us this year but a great experiance

This is a photo from the go pro not the best quality but the footage is amazing will do some editing and chuck it up

cheers

Great pic, sets the scene, leaping billies are what it's all about :)

Water looks a bit green, obviously didn't matter to the marlin.

This fish made the one I weighed last year at 153 kg look small it was hard to estimate but we think around 180 -200 kg going by the length weight charts guess we will never know for sure but I'll be buying some heavier tackle for next year
