A month or so ago, I got a nice trip offer from Nomad Sportsfishing Charters out of Cairns up thru the Ribbon Reefs for a week.
Packed the bags and off with very limited notice.
12 fishos in all - The rest of the punters were surgeons from NZ who travel the world when they aren’t making $ in the operating theatre.
The mothership was an 80’ catamaran and there were 4 x glass fishing tenders with 3 fishos per tender plus the skipper.
Great trip in all, great chef/great food, and best of all- free beer!
Winds were up around 25knts all trip pushing 2.5m seas into us. We spent around ½ day outside the reefs but it was too bumpy so we mainly stayed inside the reefs but it was still rough.
The docs were a great mob and really good company – ive changed my view of surgeons since then. They were really funny people.
Mainly targeted GT’s but lots of variety to be had
Everyone gave their pics to one of the docs who was supposed to load everything onto a cd but he missed out on heaps of photos. Im glad he is better at surgery than photos stuff
here are some pics but Matt will have some better stuff in the next mag

Re: Fishing with Nomad
Sounds like a great trip! Pity it blew up but it looks like you got onto some good fish anyway.
Its not a crisis unless there is blood around.
If there is blood around......well its a police matter...

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!
Especially when you can see them!

Looks and sounds like a fantastic trip had by all
And Great scenery and Fish to boot Bonus!
Loved the aqua-blue waters in the background of the pics, I would of taken a dip for sure! unless sharks present lol
Yeah would be great to read the article and see all the pictures on here Or are you waiting on permission or the mag to come out first?
May I ask how much is it to experience something like that an least once in my lifetime? hopefully not to expensive?
good share...cheers

Re: Fishing with Nomad
Yeah mate the water looked great but i was freezing. The Kiwis were even a bit cold. only one bloke went for a snorkel but wore a wetsuit.
Re posting on here, Matt asked to use the pics and story for the mag so i assumed i shouldnt post the whole thig here. Usually mags want exclusivity.
the prices vary to around $9500 for a week trip. They sent an email gave me the 1/2 price trip with only 5 days notice. i jumped at it.
all included - even keg beer.
