Re: Stanage Bay
The Stanage Bay turnoff is about 80km north of Rockhampton.
When travelling north, turn right at the sign about 80km up the highway. Its 100km of dirt. The first half is ok as it doubles up as the Defence force road into the Shoalwater Bay Army Training area. Last 50km can be ordinary at times.
At the end of the road is the Plumtree Store and a small town. Boat ramp, accommodation etc.

Re: Stanage Bay
free camping on the waterfront as well, top spot, from memory you had to cart in your own drinking/showering water, as above, big tides the current fairly rips through there heading back to the ramp my 3.85 with a 25 on it was topping out around 55km/h and getting some air on the small swells pushing in the channel
fish are skinny, the ocean is fat

Re: Stanage Bay
Looks like a good place to spend a couple of days after a trip to the Bundaberg distillery

Re: Stanage Bay
Great place , great little bar at the Plumtree shop, great down to earth people at both the pub and the marine and tackle store.would love to include a photo of my best crab , but don't know how. i'm sure I'll be going back for another shot. I think the best thing about it is it's isolation, most don't want to get off the bitumen for 100 k's of gravel road.
Aaah, retirement.........the hours are good , but the pay is absolute cr.p.

Re: Stanage Bay
Bit of a coincidence this topic. We should be in Stanage now for a two week trip of crabbing plus somefishing and camping at the Percy's. Unfortunately the F truck has done a high pressure oil pump so we're hanging around Rocky until its fixed!

Bummer, sorry to hear it. Few fish around Rocky tho, might keep you busy.

The truck will be fixed tomorrow so we'll get a week and a half in. The boys already at the house are eating crab and prawn drowned in beer, its that sort of spot Matt.
