2014 Territory Freshwater Flyfishing Open

Post by Swoffa »

Just finished up with the 2014 Territory Freshwater Flyfishing Open and what a fantastic competition it was. Corroboree Billabong was the setting for the fishing and the presentation and accomodation was based out of Corroboree Park Tavern.

The barra were a lot more active than this time last year with good numbers being caught over the day and a half of fishing. Toga were a bit slower this year but that is probably because of the higher water levels. Water was still up over the flood plains in quite a few areas and if you were lucky enough to find where the water was running in you were more than likely to find where the fish were.

There was a total of:
130 Barra
105 Saratoga
570 Tarpon
numerous other fish caught between 11 teams.

Biggest Barra was 60cm with two of them being caught. Biggest toga was 63cm.

A huge storm chased over half of the field back to the boat ramp mid afternoon yesterday and we were greeted with squally showers this morning. So much for the dry season but ALL the competitors had a fantastic time. Check out the results at http://www.darwinflyrodders.org.au/file ... ESULTS.pdf

Many thanks go to the organising committee for such a great competition.

Our next comp is in September with the Saltwater Challenge being held at Bynoe Harbour. All the details are available on the Darwin Flyrodders website http://www.darwinflyrodders.org.au/.

Cheers

Warren

Cool, heading out there tomorrow for a dawn fly fish. Is there a fly you would recommend?

Went out there this morning. Stacks of small tarpon. Saw a few shy barra but couldn't tempt them. I trod on my 5wt fly rod , so if anyone has an 8wt rod/reel they're thinking of selling, I'm interested.
