My mate was at the hospital when the fella was there he was talking to him about it, and yes it was the real that exploded he got a piece stuck in his neck and his mate coped it in the arm, rod was in the holder when it hit , the piece in his neck only just missed the artery, as you can imagine he is that poop scared of lightning now he may well sell his boat, apparently lots of black smoke from the boat after the strike ,he recons it looked like some one had fired up an old diesel engine !!

Unless you are in Faraday's cage. Then the insulation could be life-saving. Pretty sure that's why people generally survive car strikes.The old story about timber or rubber as an insulator is only for low voltages
Depends too on the size of the discharge etc.

Very rare to to have thunder here in the valley, even though it drizzles for days in winter ....
