Stokes Hill Wharf is good for squid, schools of small arrow squid mostly and the occasional bigger one

Squid is very average bait, unless you use them live, then they will out fish just about everything else, you need clear water, dark night, and a neap high tide.

Wrong time of year for catching squid isn't it? I thought it was a dry season fishing option

Nice work. You would probably still find them out around the rocks away from the harbor but would be few and far eternal I would have thought. The fresh would push them away. I am certainly no expert though.

Re: Tips on squid fishing
I don't claim to be of any knowledge on squiding up here, but down south we used to get them in bays and around headlands that had a bit of freshwater running into them. they always seemed to be more abundant adjacent to the areas where the water entered the bay. now the fresh water volume is very different up here and that may be one reason for the difference.
still is a pastime I enjoy so would love to find a few spots that produce through the year

Squid and baitfish go hand in hand, more baitfish around in the wet season! Try the deepwater channels on a dark night when the water is clear. An underwater light helps to attract them, 20 Watts is sufficcient.
