Tough times,
27 hooked for 8 tagged, if I had conversion rates like that on my boat I would want to neck myself. :bricks: I guess the fish just weren't interested then?

Apparently world wide the ratio in billfish competitions
Is 7:1... 7 fish raised to the one caught world wide and that's the exact number that was managed in this comp..
So ratio was on par ..
Few fish lost at the boat 2 that we're trying to be pulled into boat to be tagged rather than tagged in water .
Our score for comp was 2-2-2-1
We just couldn't raise them ..
Seem to have hook ups sorted now with some changed up rigs on circles
Big mullet that we hooked the marlin on was a swimming mullet rigged with a circle
Only 100lb lead and a thin gauge 8o circle hook :)
So not really right tackle for a 150kg black :)

What im interested in is how many boats fished the comp it might put the ratios in a better perspective.

56 raised for 19 boats ain't to bad, unfortunately the hook up rate wasn't as good. But shows darwin def has good numbers of fish .
I just wish Gove had the same numbers of fish.

If you traveled 150km from gove you could have cricket scores of bills ...
Most fish caught up in Bathurst trench 140km from Darwin
Where abouts is gove main fishing grounds and how far do most travel to fish for them ??

Well we've had bills free jumping just out from the boat ramp before, but mostly its around an hours travel to get where most people billfish.
