Yeah they look good, not sure if I really need a new reel. I'll crack if I go in there for a look.

They look the goods, and nearly as light as the core ! been keen to see how they perform.

Yeah but for the extra $70-$100 wouldn't you rather just get the Core? It's a little like getting a Twinpower instead of the Stella, nice reel but you will eventually wish you had just gone to the top in the first place. Lack of frame corrosion issues for those who treat their gear like $#%T is a good thing though.

Core is hardly the "top" and they will be discontinued in the not to distant future(at least the models built using the same tooling as the chron D)

Mate I am fully aware that the Core is going to be (if not already) discontinued, as for not being on the top rung in terms of low profile Shimano Baitcasters in Australia at least I will stand corrected if you could enlighten me, and please don't mention the Calais (also discontinued) it's a heavy, overengineered piece of $#%t. If you are refering to the 2013 Metanium (previous models of which were the JDM Core), which isn't released in Aus yet fair enough I guess.

I have both the core and the ci4 chronarch, I would have to say I still rather my core over it. Smaller, lighter, I have had it for a few years now and it's still good as new

Core either comes in a 50 or 100, the CI4 is a 150. They are different size reels, I'm pretty sure that shimano are just filling the void in there market.

got a c14 to take to lake monduran in qld, didnt get a scale but I have flogged the hell out of it chasing murray cod down south and they are a solid reel. got a youtube video to post in a few days with 115cm cod caught on the cast using it. I have a diawa HRF and a curado and a c14 is stronger than the HRF and better to cast than the curado.

Yep, awesome reel.
Have been told that the thumb bar plastic bit has come off on a fair few but they where looking into it a while ago.
I haven't had a problem with mine so far and have given it a flogging. Smooth as and the cast control is a lot better than the standard ones in the previous models.
