Roper vs Daly

Post by Turts Mcgurts »

Hi All,

I have a couple of mates planning to come up north in mid October. One of my mates has been up plenty and fishes the Daly. He only has 5 days up here.

As the reports coming out of the Daly this year have been pretty rubbish I was thinking that we fish the Roper and have heard that it is a better build up river.

Can anyone provide advice on what they think would be better, also considering the short timeframe of available fishing (5 days).

Cheers,

Turtle

If he only has 5 days, then you pretty much need 1 full day of travel to and from Darwin to fish the downstream Roper area, so you have just cut his fishing time back to 3 days......

Turts, I am in Ngukurr today and was sitting at the lunchtable with the plumbers and ole mate reported that his family have been getting into the barra this morning, landed a meter job and a few on the 60 to 70 range, somewhere not far from Ngukurr. We spoke about the current windy conditions here but it's blowing from the east and bringing in some clouds. Apparently the Roper water temp is rising and there are also reports of fish caught in the local billabongs.

The 3 days fishing is the big issue. thanks for the update hombre, the toss up is 3 days fishing with big fish around (roper) or 5 days fishing with hardly any fish around (daly).

Better of fishing local rather than waste your time at the daly- plenty of big barra to be caught in the build up close to Darwin ;-)
