Post by Captain Imagine »

Hi all,

Just wanting your opinions on the following, as i am looking to get a new fish finder. I can't decide between the LOWRANCE-HDS-5X-GEN2 and the FURUNO FCV620. Please your advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers and regards,

I had the same problem recently. I went with the HDS 5 with structure scan. I've had no issues with it and rather like its simplicity as I'm no tech wizard.

I have a Gen 1 HDS 7 with Structure Scan. My only gripe is that it is a little small in screen area and it's compounded by the fact it doesn't have the extra quick select buttons that the 8 and 10 do.

The 5x is a sounder only version so since you won't be mapping at the same time not so much of an issue (I assume you have a separate GPS). But if use the structure scan I think you will quickly find the screen too small for split screen.

I wish I had found a little more money for the 8 inch version and got the much larger screen.
