Flathead???

Post by Hally10 »

Anyone feel like sharing some info on catching flathead around the place. Used to get them back home for a big flathead fry up and would love to have a crack up here. Only ever caught one up here by mistake.

Never targeted them hally, but have caught plenty at the Catalina wrecks. I know that must sound weird, but have only caught them as a by-catch while fishing wrecks. I don't know what species they are, but not the usual southern type. Not sure if this helps, but that's my observation :)

East Arm not far from the catalinas has been the spot for me but its just one or two here and there, never a lot, never often. Been in 10 plus meters of water on pilchards but bro in law form vic got a couple jigging a soft plastics. Just amused he came all that way to catch flathead. If targeting flathead you may catch more snapper by mistake.

If you know how to prepare and cook them they are premium eating.

Cheers camfish. Might have a crack myself before I pinch some from your freezer. Your right hombre. Great feed. Saw a cooking show with some flathead and reminded me of our cookups back home.
