86 what a ripper write up. Love the photos of the trout too... and of course the black. The Perons is definitely a spot a want to learn more about. I guess I have to go fishing more though first :)

Hi 86,
Another phenomenal fishing trip, and a write up of epic proportions!
As well as cussing, I reckon you would have been huffing and puffing afterwards like Queasy catching a Jewfish.
Thanks for going to the time & effort to put the story together.
Cheers,

Ash

I think it might be time to hit North Gutter for anyone that wants a good Black, I have seen plenty out there this time of year hanging around the Mack and Tuna schools. Just didn't manage to conect to one.

Thanks for all the comments guys, it was fun.

Next trip might have to take some bigger gear, or upgrade the line on a couple of reels :D

here you go, a snippet of video showing a bit of mayhem, good commentry by Smartypants, and a bit of bad as well, a bit of dribble from everyone during the commotion but can't wait to do it again!!

Helps give a bit better idea of the size of the big feller!

No worries John, might have to head out that way for a look in a couple of weeks.

cheers

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Good one 86. I dont suppose you were using the cheap chinese line ?
I gave that away as a bad joke. kept busting all the time, full of knots and joins off the spool

Yep was too nomad, just one of the lines that i have found to be better than others.

Didn't have a problem with the line though, the leader busted near the join to the single strand wire!!

The same rig caught the Trevally the next day and the Mackerel as well, both pictured in the post, the trevor took about 10 min to get in, all i did was tie on another lure and trace.

No probs with the line or the double at all. I was a bit surpeised actually as the line had been around the Blacks tail at one stage!!

Must admit though, when i first started getting the cheap stuff i went through a few brands that were pretty cr.p and did what you mentioned, still have some in the cupboard if you want it :) use it to mend crab pots!

hey 86 you might be able to shed some light on this myth, im looking at chasing billies, ive gone overboard with some massive reels, penn international 80, daiwa sealine tournament 80 and outriggers etc, yet to try for one as of yet.

now ive heard stories that the more boats chasing billies equals more noise which aparantley increases the amount of fish raised as the noise stirs them up, can you shed any light on this with your experience?

Experience? Me? Ha

Mate I was just lucky one had a go!!

Must admit, I have heard stories the same, and this might work in trenches and dropoffs where the fish are deep down, and have to come up a fair way to see whats happening. but I like fishing by myself!! I figure if you have the right stuff out the back, flashers and teasers that big fish can see from a long way away, you troll around action, fish busting up etc, then there is a fair chance the big fish will come over to see what the flashing is, then have a closer look at the things being towed around.

And with a bit of luck have a go at one of em!!

Maybe we should organise an FFF meet at North Gutter next month and all have a go!!!

Cheers
