Corroboree - forgot my fishing rod
Spent another glorious morning out in the wonder that is Corroboree Billabong last weekend. I have commented before I will never tire of it's beauty - not a chance.
A cruisy drive down the Arnhem Highway (and the obligatory Iced Coffee and toastie at the Tav ) saw our boat slip off into the tranquility at 0845hrs with the morning sun illuminating the lilypads and trees and the birds were out en masse.
We managed to stumble across a White Breasted Sea Eagle with a fresh kill of barra (one less for me now ) and I managed to get a few happy snaps. Further down the track we spotted an Azure Kingfisher happy to strike a pose.
A few handbags came up to say hello in the morning glimmer , and then a pair of White Breasted Sea Eagles cropped up...
I stopped to spend a moment taking in the beauty of the wetlands and lilypads around me, and was greeted by the majestic Jabiru - both above and on land.
Then I reached for my fishing rod to have a crack at some of the chromies...
No fishing rod to be found...I'd forgtotten it!!
I found my fiancee instead though
Fantastic Wetlands Cruise that was.
Here's a sample of my pics:

Re: Corroboree - forgot my fishing rod
Hi Windy,
Looks like a lovely romantic trip, probably spoiled the atmosphere a bit by suddenly groping the missus! I'm sure she believed your excuse (sounds a bit similar to the flat battery excuse, but a little more ingenious).
Don't know of anyone who only takes one fishing rod with them!
Thanks for the pictures.

Hi there,
At least you got some good photos.
When I go fishing I always have trouble to focus on the photography part...
I love both fishing and photography, but alway find it hard to do both at the same time.
Basically, I can't multi tasks...
Have a good day,
Pecheur

Re: Corroboree - forgot my fishing rod
Exact same problem I face every time Pech - trying to improve my skills on the 500D and all the time trying to upgrade barra PB!! I have taken on the challenge of a zoom lens shot holding the camera and fishing rod at same time!! Begging for disaster I know!!Pecheur wrote:Hi there,

Re: Corroboree - forgot my fishing rod
Thanks mate - I'm pretty happy with it. Of course I'm still learning the fundamentals of the DSLR and dont come close to professing that I have it nailed!! Its a nice camera to use and i like the 55-250 but I would not buy it again now that I can use it as I can. I would be buying the body only and a Tamron 18-250 or something like that - changing the lenses can be a right royal pain in the arse, especially when fishing as stuck between wildlife shots (zoom), in close (happy snaps), jump shots (either) and panoramic (wide angle).Roadtrain wrote:Great photo's.....How do you like your Canon 500D/EF-S55-250mm???

All up I'm happy, but gee I cant wait to get my paws on a EOS 5D Mk II or III with a variety of lenses.

Re: Corroboree - forgot my fishing rod
go the 60D and spend the extra on lenses.
there isn't that much difference between shots taken on a 5D to a 60D, but there is a HUGE difference when shooting through quality glass.
get amongst pro series glass, and going for an EF 50mm f1.4 for your current setup (about $350) will be the best move you will ever make. Buy one tomorrow mate. Awesome in low light dawn and dusk shots on specific targets. Depth of field is FU*KING amazing!!
The beauty of the EF 50mm is you can take it with you when you upgrade the body.

Re: Corroboree - forgot my fishing rod
Windy, lovely shots, photography is something I keep saying I should make more time for. I have a Pentax DSLR with a Tamron 18-250, and it is great, I never have to worry about changing lenses and I can get a huge range of shots (although I know that more serious photographers will prefer to change lenses and employ some specialist ones in particular circumstances). I just need to practise with it more to get more out of it.
Thank heavens I moved to the Territory, everything I love is here!

Re: Corroboree - forgot my fishing rod
Is that a fixed 50mm lens? ie - use purely for reasonably close subjects only? I'm still not fully up on all the jargon and abbreviations when using jargon.Kevin Kevinson wrote:go the 60D and spend the extra on lenses.
