First Season Geese Hunting

Post by mippa »

Well the season got underway and I flew in Thursday night from work excited like a little kid at Christmas time. My gun permit had finally arrived but couldn’t pick the gun up til the next day. So off to my brothers place at 4am I go ready and rearing waiting for him to finish night shift. We jumped on the quad and headed out. After getting lost for 3 hours the sun was well and truly up by the time we found the spot we had been looking for :bonk: But with only 1 gun and eye’s full of dust we managed a measly 2 geese haha. It was my brothers first Geese so he was cheering. It was about 8:30am at this stage so off we went so he could sleep.

I picked up my new gun straight away and was eager to get out and try it. After busting a few peoples gonads dougy felt sorry for me and said I could tag along with him. So early Saturday morning I get up hung over as hell and meet up with Doug for my first shoot. Him and his mates were champs, Showed me what to do and how to do it. For the love of me I couldn’t get one. They got a few and we had a nice goose brecky.

Not to be goosless on my first weekend shooting I got up at 4am on Sunday and headed out yet again with a few other mates. It was hard going at Howie. With my limited knowledge of goose shooting I know that shotguns don’t shoot 100m up in the air yet the peanuts on the other side of the swamp felt the need to take a shot at every bl..dy goose that flew by at that height. Quiet frustrating when we were calling them and there were coming in towards our decoys and we were just about to squeeze the trigger then bang, bang , bang bl..dy bang. And off they go. Geeze thanks Fwits!!! :hunting:

We shot off from there and found another spot quieter and I ended up plucking a nice size goose flying by. Only problem the bugger got stuck up the tree so he made me work to get it. bl..dy thing!! WOOHOO Mippa’s on the board!!! I had a smile from ear to ear. I ended up with 4 for the day. Pretty chuffed with it all and cant wait to get back out.

Cheers matty. With a bit more shooting I'm Sure I'll starting dropping them good.
Na quads been down so haven't been out too much. Pretty accurate with it upto about 50m on targets though. Hardest thing is trying to find someone that wants to go out looking for them and doesn't bail at the last min.

I'm hearing ya mate, had a three day trip planned for the keats area fishing Sunday / Monday / Tuesday. My deckie pulled out on me at the last minute. The worst feeling in the world especially when other boats going are relying on you for safety / company. Makes me feel sick to the stomach when people pull out. The way I was brought up is that if you commit to something you see it through, especially fishing and hunting.

Mate if you can hit stuff at 50 m with that rifle and you are using a quad you won't miss!

Yeah was bought up the same mate. With the quad out of action, finding someone that wants to WAlK is impossible. Haha
Plenty of time, I'm patient I'll get one sooner or later.

Barrabustin - def hooked of the goose shooting. Love it.
