Forget the harbour! I found getting to and from Lee Point reefs, the bottle washer, reefs of Fannie Bay etc in a 3.7m tinny with a 15hp johno no worries (i think lee point is where they are sinking the new blocks). Have the right safety gear and a good set of oars and I'd say you're sweet. You even get good mobile reception. You get all sorts of reefies and pelagics out there.Manton mad wrote:Any chance the government could start building reefs, wrecks around the harbour for the smaller boats would be good for everyone I think could use unwanted culverts in the deeper waters near the whalfs not so much the shipping chanels im aure theres plenty of water around the city to do so any thoughts ??

Would love to see a wreck like that go down in the six mile area, giving the smaller boats more of a chance to fish it. Easy access from dinah beach ramp, other ramps used to access lee point reefs are not as user friendly, buffalo creek is a high tide option, other ramps along the coast are exposed to the weather.

Nightcliff boat ramp is awesome to launch from, really protected in most conditions.mako wrote:Would love to see a wreck like that go down in the six mile area, giving the smaller boats more of a chance to fish it. conditions for entry to the duckpond are changing soon. the major one is that boats will have to have a current survey certificate.
by the looks of it there are a few more derelicts in there ripe for sinking, pointmoore, invincible ii, gulf viking, zandaam, kuri pearl just to name a few that may be too hard to resurvey.....

The making of artificial reefs don't get the air play they deserve anywhere else. Well done on the NT, government and fishos alike, for keeping up the pressure to improve the industry. Can't wait to get back to fish them all.

howdy, the process for added to the existing FAD's has been simplified.
Submit a proposal to http://www.nt.gov.au/d/Fisheries/ providing detaisl of the hull etc. photo's, location.
if you dont get any traction that way, take it up with AFANT.
good idea, and good luck. BB
