that was the part that got me, there was hardly any load at the time that the line snapped.
I reiterate that no fish were lost due to line snap, which made it even more weird.

Re: What to spool my calcutta 400b with
I've run into that snapping problem with little load.
Eventually I put it down to Albright knots with the snappoff coming right where the knot starts.
I know that people swear by them but I ran into trouble. Ended up having to double the braid and result was bulky messy knot in which I had no confidence anyway.
Eventually I started using a sheet bend and modified it.
Now I use 6 turns of single braid on a sheet bend (with 1 minor modification) and haven't had a failure yet.
Simple, easy to tie, small and I've got confidence in it.

You should hit Darren up for a couple of waypoints for the jewies; went out with him years ago and caught a few on a 150lb handline - no line snapping problems there, but you'd probably only fit about 5 yards on the Curado!!
Cheers,

put 80lb whiplash on it. get youself some gloves to stop thumb burn and arms like mike tyson and thumb the shitt out of every thing. Saves you on line as you only need enough to hit the bottom.
Oh but costs you in bent spools and gears being stripped. the best fun you can have with your pants on though.

50lb is the go, I used whiplash which is still on my calcutta from 3 years ago and still going strong, though I have started using the ebay stuff for a fraction of the price and still works fine!
