Post by ccc »

Hi Guys

I've caught the billfish bug and now want to buy some quality gear (rods & reels) but not sure where to start. What do you use or what do you recommend?
I live in the Pilbara and I be using the outfits for Spanish Mackeral, dolphin fish, wahoo, and now billies!!!!

Thanks in advance

What is your budget like?

TLD 15 is big enough to do what you want.
Penn 16 vsx is shiny

Or look at a big spin reel....

Didnt think the TLD 15 had enough line capacity. A couple of times we ran very short of line on the Marlin.

Could always step it up to a TLD 20 and put 10kg on it

PM Deepblack. He had a heap of gear for sale not sure hat he has left but could be worth a PM even if just for advice. Also read his Billfish blog in here. He goes right through all the gear and so fourth he recommends.

Something around a 10Wt with plenty of backing should get you there. :D

I find mono to be better at keeping hooks in fish. I have caught billies on braid but most of what I do these days is line class fishing so rarely more than 10kg.
