There are still some good fish around!!
I had to go to Perth last week for the Mums 70th and for a bit of business.
Missing out on a good weekend in Darwin for the Barra, oh well.
Managed to organise with little Bro to go out in his dinghy for a bit of a fish.
arrived at his place in Freo at the correct time, sure enough no one there, had to ring and get him home from the office, after badgering him for a while and organising the boat and tackle and bait etc, as usual nothing ready!, we set off.
Down to Woodmans point just south of Fremantle, launched the boat and headed out, a light Sou wester greeted us as we came out of the harbour and copped a few sprays in the face on the way accross to the passage between Garden island and Carnac island.
That water was cold, not used to that anymore, had to put on a spray jacket! we stopped and had a bit of a drift along the channel with jigs, caught a couple of wrasse and little cod then went over to the spot near Carnac and anchored up.
Burleyed up a bit and started chucking some half pillies out, got a couple of small things, bro got a small Pinkie about 35cm that we let go, then next cast bang off my line went as soon as it hit the surface, wound like mad with the jig rod and the big threadline and a nice tailor came out and shook its head, took a bit of drag, then i pulled it in so fast it nearly went through the side of the boat, little bro was going, settle down, gawd!, but as soon as the fish hit the deck it bit through the heavy mono, and i explained that was why i did it, those choppers have sharp fangs. a bit more burley and his rod went off, good fight and pulled in a nice 76cm Pinkie, thats what we were after, beer time a bit more burley and the rod went off again, heading for rottnest, by the time he got the rod out of the holder the 30lb braid had been cut on something, damn, missed him, a good one too!
Missed a couple more, couple of small snook, a 70cm one, another nice tailor, another beer then off the rod went again, this time a bit quicker out of the rod holder and the drag applied at max and he turned the big pinkie round and an 87cm model came over the side, nice!!
tide changed and the fish seemed to go off a bit, pulled a kilo plus squid up on the bait and netted it, mmmm nice fresh squid for t.
Packed up and headed back to Woodmans
Was a nice trip for a few hours and got a good feed, no other boats nearby, will be back there again with little bro one day and get some more!
There are still some good fish around if you know where to look!! and was good to be able to have a fish away from home!

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Good report A86, nice to hear something from Perth. The Salmon shouldn't be too far from appearing round the WA south coast too I'd guess.
Cheers.

Great story A86, almost makes me homesick. I certainly miss the big reds.
I used to have a shack at Coogee and remember well the nights the snapper were in the sound, the ocean was lit up like a street with boats!
Excellent fishing there for kg's, squid and full blue swimmers.

Nice pics there mate. The old tailor fresh straight on the pan are not too bad either.
