The amount of sightings vary during the year. Late afternoons off lee point is a good time to come into contact with tigers and small whalers, and the odd hammer. I’ve seen Rick being circled by a biiig tiger at the bottle washer, I mistook it for a manta ray. Let’s just say it had very wide shoulders. We both were spearing golden trevelly when this particular shark would fly in and smash them, I’m always happy to get my $120 shafts back.

Just last June a large whaler bit my speargun and shook it from side to side. (See my post). They are definitely and bite first and see what it is kind of species.

So maybe 1 out of six outings we’ll see them and have them take our fish. We ‘manage’ the situation by relocating if any of them get frisky.

Bass reef is another place to many shark species. Marie and Parry shoal is a guaranteed spot to them. I’d hate to be in the water there at night! in low viz conditions the larger sharks don’t change direction when they swim past you, the ones under 6 ft seam to get startled and swim off.

Our mates down in NSW see great whites all the time and the Coral Sea your lucky to get a fish to the surface.

A mate of a mate in NSW fishes for great whites land based from Stocton beach. They are usually young ones but big enough. I used to swim there regularly. :o

Hay Beasty. What is the spearing like on Marie shoal?

I found the bottom fishing rather hard there on lines. Is the spearing good? What species do you see a lot of there?

I pressume it beeing that remote that the fishing would have to be good at times but I could never fluke it at the right time. Other shoals in that area are awsome but that one seemed to be devoid of life when I have been there.

Well dont bother with thw flat top section. The edges look good on the sounder snd the reef is like swiss cheese, full of holes, gullies and ledges. I dont know why its so hard to bait fish but when you hangout on the bottom fish come out to look at you, then bang! Dinner is secured. Goodrich banks are the same, deep edges are the go.
