Justin,
when you say mary river i assume you mean the mary river lagoon on the highway?
I have fished there a bit and had limited success with classics. The fish i have caught there have been taken by travelling under the bridge and going right down to the big right hand bend. On the right hand side there is a series of drums tied together - every time i have been there we have picked up barra by trolling classics across in front of that and then down around the rocky bank.
I always see boats trolling the snags just under the bridge as well although i have nevr caught anything there but it would be worth a shot.
If i was going there i would also run a little lucifer or spearhead out the back as well to cover all bases.
Good luck
Shane

Couple of good rockbars upstream also, always worth a prospect with taipan.
