get a bow wave working and stay at the same speed, dont change gears or use the clutch
Good advice, until you hit this f--kn great rock and either smash something badly, or get hung up on it. Have seen it a few times now, which is why if I cant walk it, or there is no-one sillier than me to go first, I don't bother.

The Pentecost just after a big wet before the graders have been though can be particularly bad.

Speaking of - just downstream of the crossing. Not sure where the rest or the Toyota on the back ended up.

Adelaide River Bridge to Goat Island, 2004, with the prototype snorkel extension.

BEAR is right, the maintenance is a killer, but it's the stale air in the cabin that really gets you.

 Some great pics there guys 8) Here are a couple of pics of one of my many costly mistakes :bonk: , Otto creek on the way to Marrakai crossing is the location , had been through many times that season just this time after big mob of water had washed it out i went into a hole and hydro-locked the motor :banghead: . With 2 young kids and a heavily pregnant missus in the car i spose you could say i wasnt the most popular bloke around . End result was a write of from the insurance company and about 15k out of pocket , funny enough the missus aint real keen on water crossing any more :?

This is a pic I took earlier in 2010 at Cahils, not sure whose car it is but I'll bet they were not happy, the ute was slowly making its way down stream so I assume a recovery of any sort didn't happen. We saw some serious rain heading our way later in the day so made the decision to evacuate. On the way back through Magela the boat and trailer (5m plate boat with merc 75 4st) started floating and heading down stream. Lucky we left when we did.

You're mad.

You're all bl..dy mad.

The most important element to a successful 1m river crossing is your approach.

This is how I approach it.....

@ 2Rods --- Ha Ha Its little Alice whos now ....um....nearly eight so I cant call her "croc bait" any more. She still believes my claims that we are immune to crocodiles because daddy can squeeze them...

Spot on Mud.
It always amazes me how many people try to take a vehicle thru deep water. Anything over the axles is deep.
It can be a very expensive and extremely dangerous way do things. only need a cup full of water to kill a diesel
I'll drive 100 km to go around deep water.

I used to do tag along tours and the first thing people wanted to do was drive thru the surf…. :bonk:
I remember seeing a group of 8 cars at Archer river camp waiting for spares after they all dunked their vehicles. Buggered the whole trip
An old bloke told me ages ago, cars = land, boats = water
