This weekend in Darwin ...
It's neap tides, but a strong south-easter is forecast.
Last week's big tides brought mullet up the Daly River, and as predicted several metre-plus barra were taken by those who trolled up the middle on the incoming tides. One fish was a 120cm+ horse.
Otherwise the reports have been mixed on the Daly. All eyes are now on the NT Barra Classic this week.
The neap tides this weekend will be good for pelagics if you fish in close out of the wind. Try East Point, Lee Point, and Larrakeyah. The area further out around Channel Rock is good for macks at dawn.
Manton Dam produced some barra at night in April and will be worth considering because Corroboree and Hardies have so far been average.
Building tides next week will see harbour fishing for barra and threadies improve.
For jewies and snapper try fishing deep wrecks and reefs in the evening when the wind drops off. The south-easter often drops away in the evening and starts up again in the wee hours.
It looks like big buck crabs are about in numbers this year.
The Jewie Reef at the mouth of the Adelaide River would be worth a look this weekend. Also the jetty wreck at Bynoe.
Try for sailfish in Fog Bay early next week if the wind drops off.
