What would you say to more man made lakes being introduced in the NT?

We dont want anyone to overdevelop the Daly catchment ~ but we would be happy to dam other rivers and creeks systems for man made lakes and stuff up their eco systems like what has happened in the eastern and southern states :| :|

judging by the reponses so far it must make sense to
some :fishy: :fishing:

I agree with you Hawk. Leave everything alone and go out and catch a Barra in the Wild. Who wants to catch an oversize Goldfish anyway.

NO DAMS NO DAMS NO DAMS NO DAMS NO DAMS NO DAMS NO DAMS

If the sole reason we want to dam a natural river is to catch a fish....well we arent thinking straight IMHO.

Geez i am fired up today!

We've got an unused dam that is ready to stock - Darwin River Dam, flowing into the harbour. If it was stocked big barra escapees would end up in Middle Arm.

Perfect

I would hate to see more dams on our rivers.

Do we have to to assume its in a catchment area directly upstream from a river?
Why not use locations like the hill ways out the back like adelaide river hills. Sure its in the vacinity of the the daly etc but surely there wouldnt be an influence to either daly nor adelaide rivers etc.

Whats the margaret river done for us lately? Stick a dam stream of that!

I think the focus would be free water for the publics consumption? Dunno havnt read any proposals. But itsinmeblood, many billabongs close to town are on private, pastural or indiginous land. Bit tricky to get access etc. Good business plan for any investors exploiting a new water source for entry fee, ie lake bennent.

Lets open up the other dams we have first. Lake bennet and Darwin river dam are both good to go why risk destroying an eco system when we already have places that we could fish.

I would be one person up for opening darwin river dam to fishing as from sat photos the dam I large at good depth , net the areas were fish can escape an fill it with a couple million barra, jacks, togas and sootys have our own awonga or tinnaroo im sure the govnment can make some money from the dam if it was done now 5-6 years from now we could have imoundment comps in our own back yard not taking the p..s out of the nationls or the classic as ive never fished em but dont the guys that do arent you sick of 10 boats up ur ass in one strech of river with how much water is in drd I dont think you would have such a problem then again a hot bite is alwas going to atrackt attension
