I recently did a trip with Mark heli hunting and did a spot of fishing over the middle of the day and can I just say it was an absolutely AWESOME day.

The day begins at around 8 out at the MKT airfield for weigh in, safety briefs and preparation. We took off and flew down towards the Daly crossing the river near Palmerston Island before we landed. Radios were set up and rifle sighting checked. Marks knowlege and commentary on the way down were very informative and interesting and made the flight time seem very short.

We took off and started to look for pigs in suitable areas so we could access them - didnt have to look far and we found our first mob and touched down and set off to nail a couple. I think in this first mob we slotted 3 or 4 of the 6 pig that were there as we sorted out our shooting and worked out how we were doing business. The chopper touched down and as we were getting ready to get back in a small piglet walked up to my feet - the buggers were everywhere.

The day went like that - fly around, locate a mob, land walk in on them and get amongst it. We nailed around 60 pigs for the day using Marks rifles which werent sighted for us but we managed.

Lunch was spent at one of the Anson creeks which was land locked by the tide which was miles out. Very pleasant spot to have lunch and flick for a barra - we landed about 6 or 7 barra to 70 odd cm which was good fun.

After lunch and a fish we did some more shooting concentrating on the bigger fellas but still wailing into any mobs we located. The trick is to try to slot the lead pig and the rest dont know what to do - easy pickings.

I would recommend this as a must do as it was great fun with plenty of pigs - we didnt get amongst all the pigs that were down there - there were plenty of small mobs that we did not bother and some in areas where we couldnt land. I cannot give this trip a big enough wrap - just flying around down there and seeing the sites is awesome but the shooting and fishing makes it crazy - we loved it - I willbe doing it again next year when i get back from my trip.

You can take pics but we concentrated on shooting as the air hours are limited - depends on what you wanna do - we were keen to get plenty of numbers on the board.

You can shoot buff etc but have to pay the royalties on them - all the prices are on the web site.

Cheers

Shane

Good stuff Shane, did you take the go pro? Did you have to walk in? Or we're you slotting them as soon as you land? I would be heaps keen to give this a crack.

Ben
took the GoPro but didnt clear the card prooperly so it was full and I didnt get bugger all footage - could have and will be right on for the next one now I know how it all works.

Sometimes you only have to walk 20 metres before you start shooting other times if you stalk right in you may have to walk a bit further - only rules are you cant shoot from under the blades. Depends if he can set down close to where the hogs are held up or if you have to walk in. If he shuts down its a 15 min turn around to get back up again. Some times we walked in some times we jumped out and he lifted off and guided us on by radio.

Its great fun - cant speak highly enough of it.
