I read in fish and boat mag. about all the fish dying with the cold weather its something you wouldnt expect, when you say cold how cold did it get it may deter stocking clubs from putting fish in there do you reckon.

sorry i havent replied before now max but we had a computer crash , but im back on line now. to your question about how cold it was to kill all those barra . well the dam was about 6% cap and the water temp was about 1 deg. the water has to be deep enough for the fish to get down deep into the warmer water at the bottom of the dam to escape the cold . the boffins reckon those that didnt die straight away get like a bug in their system and die some time later due to infection. but that was realy a freak of nature that this happened ,so i doubt if it would stop anyone from stocking dams. the wife and i went out to flick some lures on this one day and with in half an hour we would have seen about 70 odd meter long barra from the bank , some were in mobs of six or seven . i heard some blokes were just wading into the water and gaffing them, i cant see any sport in that. :fishing:

111cm Victoria River Region

Post by Petto »

Got this 111cm fish casting to submerged rocks on a blue River Rat 12+ near the Victoria River Region???,

Hooked a little Barra and this beauty came out and boofed the smaller Barra whilst i was fighting it she then swam back under the rock in which she came from. I unhooked the little fish had a few more casts and saw her swim out and engulf the Lure, the rest is history. I dont know to many people who have sight casted to a metre plus barra before, i dont think it gets much better.

Believe it or not i was on my own so used the timer on my camera placed it on the top of the outboard lifted her out of the water and said "cheese" to get the photo.

She was released to fight another day.
