Yep, I'd be mounting a little solid fuel rocket booster on the back of my yak. Activated by just pulling a string ...

:croc: I know exactly how this bloke felt (thus my profile name). Getting back in the water for the first time is the first challenge. Snorkelling care free has never been the same for me. It's just a matter of time with the growing number of crocs around... All the best with his recovery.

My missus wants to buy me a GoPro...she said I need it... It's like a black box recorder for fishos...

the reality is lots of people use the water including the royal Surf life saving (Not just the odd 'crazy one') they have kids in the water most weekend of the dry season and have board training on the water 3 days a week at (at dawn and dusk)

wonder when the next one will be, and where?.

Have seen some very big crocs up the Lizzie, not far from the ramp, eating crab pots as usual

They have to swim along the coast and through the harbour to get there.

Have seen a few good ones in Racecourse creek over the years too.
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

I fish in Darwin Harbour and Shoal Bay a bit and I reckon I'd see crocs 4 out of 5 times I go out. I'd reckon you could safely say that at any given time there is at least one croc moving along the coast between the Bay and Harbour. One day very soon it's going to be impossible to do organised activities that invlove getting into or close to the water (SLS, swimming, saling, etc) all year round. I just hope someone (particulary a kid) doesn't have to pay the price before the call is made. Is it worth it?

Exactly. But it will take two deaths on Darwin beaches. The first will be "that was a bit unlucky", and then the second might precipitate action ...

A dead man switch taped to a butt plug might be safer. Guaranteed to provide an instantaneous activation the exact moment you sh!t yourself.

This is the point I was trying to make. I grew up here and not that I do many of them I have always considered jet skiing, kayaking, surfing and swimming off Darwin's beaches to be a pretty safe activity during the dry season. When asked in the past my response has always been "there's a chance but you would have to be unlucky, a bit like with sharks down south. There's no guarantees." Over the last couple of years I have been rethinking that mindset.

I wonder if the clubs that encourage persons to enter the water in Darwin have done risk assessments and have enough insurance cover? As well as having to answer some full on questions at an inquiry, a death or even an attack on their watch could send them broke. Even if only one club is affected the insurance premiums for the rest will be astronomical.

Just an observation; been fishing Middle Arm for nearly 30 years now and probably seen no more than 5 or 6 crocs that whole time. This year I've seen crocs on 4 out of the last 5 trips, all in different places. Nothing over 2mt but seems to be a heap more around this year.

It must have been a pretty weak croc to have hold of him for 2 mins and to not even puncture the skin on this bloke? And he was kitesurfing where there are heaps of rocks, and he would have been getting pushed straight onto said rocks with the south easterly on Saturday. Just saying...., although I'm a kitesurfer so i have a vested interest in wanting to believe it's BS. I think all of the other kiters are calling BS on this one too.
