West of Bathurst

Post by Seastorm »

Headed out to the west of Bathurst Island last weekend for 4 Days.We hit sharks in plague proportions on the 1st day, and as we were about to blow our sinker supply 1st day, we decided to give trolling a try, and bottom bash the reefs at night .We saw very few birds working but managed some nice spaniards still, in the trench. The sharks were still thick at our goldie grounds, so next day we crabbed in Port Hurd. Also got some bazzas , but nothing to brag about.WE missed the tide to barra fish a new creek we had found, which looks like it wouldnt get too much attention :banghead: Next morning, we dodged Hector and a huge water spout, on the way to Marie.Water clarity was pretty good, so had the mate glassing our quarry and even calling them as we hooked up!!Got some nice nannies and Red Bass.Trolled a beautiful trout on a bommie when we were leaving to top off a very nice day.We camped 70km closer to town Monday night and bagged out on some nice goldies to round out a good trip.May go again in early Jan(weather dependant). If not , the neaps in mid FEb and mid March.Hopefully the toothy ones will leave us alone.seems to us they like just that much run.The mate tried his hand at tailing a 10foot model, only to realise(very quickly)he had in fact grabbed the pointy end  All ended well luckily.Cheers boys and girls. And have a safe time on the water over xmas. :drinking1:
