Re: protest this saturday
I can't be there due to a committment organised weeks ago ( it is not a cop out) but I hope there is a big turn out. The worst possible outcome for a rally/protest is for it to be a fizzer.
May I suggest that, if needed sometime in the future, that this forum organises a parade of boats from Dripstone Cliffs area ( or similar) up Trower and Bagot Roads , into the city complete with horns blowing, loud hailers and banners.

I also cannot be there other than in spirit family commitment. But heck yea I like your idea Olefella, no waiting to launch, no waiting to retrieve and no washing of boat after an hour or so on the water cruising past a bunch of people who dont give a rats. But a convoy from Dripstone/Casuarina to the city nice and slow on a Saturday morning now we are talking!

Re: protest this saturday
Maybe not Dodgy.....
I think the people who matter already get a flavour of public sentiment from this and other forums. They are also the sort of people who are aware enough to see 20 boats and realise that 20 families gave up their Saturday to make a point, another 20 were unable to due to work and other commttments, another 20 did not launch because protesting is not how they make political statements, another 20 are land based but care anyway, another 2000 care but will make their statement at the polling booth.
I absolutely believe that there will be a great many more than 20 but even if there wasnt, those who matter will understand the effort made by those boaters and will do the extrapolations. Its not just FFF suporting this floating protest...its the radio station that initiated it, the NT News, Im sure the Tinny Boys and the rest of the cardigan mob at ABC, AFANT, the Palmo and Darwin Game Fishing clubs.....and punters from all around Darwin.
Heres the thing.....how many supporters of the closed zones care enough about their cause to stand up and be counted? The three or four who sit behind subsidised computers pumping out a formula plan to sway political agendas? Where are they? Sending letters to the editor? (I think thats step 3 (c) "Two days after media release follow up with letter to your local newspaper")
Politicians understand the difference between idealistic propaganda and reflections of true public sentiment. They look at a single boat floating out off Stokes Hill and see the family that votes, the friends who couldnt make it, the ones who that family will influence, and so on and so on.
We have a message that we need send in a manner that cannot be filed and forgotten.
1 We care about our marine environment
2 We are managing it better than any region in Australia has managed marine environments before
3 We wont have that system changed as a result of random demands that amount to the pointy end of an extremist agenda
4 We wont have that system changed as a result of un-consulted ill-informed political whim
5 We are the Northern Territory community and we will not be bullied
Get down there if you can. I'll be there chucking tomatoes at you from the wharf yelling out "Booooo shun the floating hippie protesters!!"
Cheers

Re: protest this saturday
Ive spoken to pollies from both sides and all are dead set against the proposed laws.
there are a couple of comps on that day and just a couple of boats will give the wrong impression
Ive sent info to PGFC and not one reply as yet.
My dog is even going
That is my fear as well. It may look like any changes will affect just a handful of fishosdodgyone wrote:If 20 boats show up it will be percieved that only 20 people care....

Re: protest this saturday
its been on the boil for over a mth. I can offer suggestions about why you havent heard of it before but you might not like it
depends if you listen to the local radio or read the paper or if youre a member of a fishing club.
