Headed west of the gutters out to he next butter that run north west past Shepparton Shoals and up to the Trench. Fished 35m to 60m, started on the last of the outgoing to almost the top of e incoming tide. Temps ranged from 30 to 28 degrees possibly due to the incoming cold deep water. Bait everywhere but not really balled up like we are used to. Trolled a Richter Soft Oscar in 502/506 short corner, Pakula shredder 8 inch in blue crystal lumo long cornerand 2 skipping gars on the Long and short rigger, later put a Pakula hot head fluzi on the shotgun in screamer.

Didn't see poop, heaps of Mack tuna everywhere but not one hit for 5 hours of trolling, it was soooo fishy we should have had blacks everywhere but that's Darwin and that's life. 3 week countdown until the Billfish Classic. Beer was cold and we got a consolation Jewie on the way in. Went 125cm and 15.8kg. Tagged a bunch of broad barred in the harbour on the way out, a Mack tuna a a GT on the way in, counts for nothing unfortunately up here...

A couple from the last month. One trip off dundee with nogood and deepblack and the other off the top of the apsley with some other mates. The pic of the two fellas in the boat was their first time chasing sails, they promptly outfished us. They had a ball. Had 3 boats out there, 1st the amatures went 6-3-2. 2nd boat went 8-3-0 and i went 2-1-1 all sails.

Awesome stuff guys!

Do you run teasers out the back and then switchbait or running skirts?

Just a daisy chain, two skipping gars and a switch generally. Cheers.

for those who have any interest in the Billfish Classic, fish numbers where up again, no doubt to Doug and the crew educating us all on the fishery to the north. 19 Sailfish and 2 Blacks from memory, rumour has it some blacks hit the spread of a commercial Mack fisherman to the north of the boundary so they where around. Lacks played havoc with baits, anything swimming was nailed, skipping was the way to go it seemed. Day 2 saw our boat rig over 40 gars, others rigged more! at times we had 3-4 way hook ups on mack, tuna or sharks.

Good colour changes but not much bait present, quite a few sails raised down in the gutter on the final day, Dundee was quiet for the second year, weather may have played a part in that as it was windier than last year for sure, made hangovers very difficult to deal with for the hour long steam to the grounds in sloppy conditions.

Bring on 2017, a crew of guys have started a carton billfish comp the weekend before ANZAC day, i'm in so i hope the rest of you are too, it's on Facebook so if you're keen, PM me with your Facebook name and i'll add you. DGFC may also run a comp in the dry as well off Dundee to keep those with smaller boats like me interested, i'll keep you all posted on that if it gets opened to the public, at this stage it'll intra-club only to gauge interest.

Tight lines boys and girls!

Thanks for the info Simmo,

I'm looking at finding some new ground during the Dry maybe not as far as Doug goes .
But will try up the N/W side Tiwi's , I don't do alot of Billie chasing but will have
the gear on board just in case.

If your doing any trips that way let me know , always good to have some company out there

Jeffish I'll be targeting most of mine off Dundee in the early half, convoy trip later in the year could be good but, camp at the top of Apsley. Project 4 for the boat, temp extend the cast deck to sleep two.
