what are peoples preference for skipping gar and do you need to strike differently?

circle hooks at the moment, but we seen to be hooking quite a few very close to the eye. as for strikeing dont, free spool for 10-15seconds flip the bail closed (i use spin gear)and dont do a thing till ya start loseing lots of line. :mrgreen:

do you think they have a better hook up rate or is it easer to release them?

I have only tryied them a few times on jewies and never really had much success.

Definately small circle hooks as less trauma to the fish . If they do get swallowed cut the leader as close you can and it will rust out. As double hall said dont strike let the fish take the bait, wait then gently lift the rod and hopefully the circle hook will stick to the bill. Gently gently with these beautiful fish :fish:
