Anyone been trying this up here. After quite a few reports of marlin hooked down deep im thinking of trying this tomorrow.
Im thinking bridle rig up a trev or something similar in size on the 50w n see what happens. Ill be out at nrth gutter if the wind does what its saying on the bom site.

G'Day DH,
No reason why it wouldn't work but it might be a bit hit and miss unless you can locate fish working deep bait and perhaps drop a live mullet down to the depth they are holding at. Worth a go if you are set up for it though. Happy hunting on the weekend!
Cheers,

It may be a go. Just to put it into perspective, I was down near Cape Ford recently and was bottom bouncing a reef nearby. Big snapper and unfortunately really big power-tail were coming up. The old boy hooked one of about 12kg and was hangin his freckle on the deck trying to get it in. As it was about 4m under the boat, and in clear water, we could not only identify the wasted effort on the end of the line, but the thing that buzzed it.

Yep, it was a black and quite a hefty one at that, the thing was about 10ft long and came back through under the boat 3 times buzzing the big powertail, hitting it once with its shoulder, but wouldn't bite (I would have gladly sacraficed $50 worth of line to just hook it). After that it just dissappeared, and natuarlly we hung the big stuff out the back and spent the next two hours going back and forth over this spot for nothing.

So they can be interested, and if you can get your bait in the right depth without moving it, who knows......But you will.

G'day Double Haull

Bridle rig those smaller jelly bean Tuna & or similar, the killer up here on this method is the number of Sharks that inhabit the water, but it works, you will notice the bridle rigged bait start to get extremely nervous when a predator arrives in its vicinty, good luck, hopefully it has a stick on its head & no teeth, cheers Ballls.

DH,
I remember 10-15yrs back a fella fishing for sharks out at Fenton Patches drift fishing with a dead mullet rigged on wire hooked and fought a big Black for 7hrs before the TLD 25 shat itself. Got some good jump photos of it in Top End Tackle world ( or what ever there called now) I reckon as Balls said sharks would be a problem with this technique, however slow trolling big swim baits on a down rigger might turn up some results with less grey coats.
