Hi Smed, that's what happens when you let the line go slack - the prize just slides back into the briney.... That deckie should hang his head in shame!

Yep saw that on the news smed

Mad fishing at its best, that's what I was worried about!!!
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

got-none wrote:hey 86 you might be able to shed some light on this myth, im looking at chasing billies, ive gone overboard with some massive reels, penn international 80, daiwa sealine tournament 80 and outriggers etc, yet to try for one as of yet.

now ive heard stories that the more boats chasing billies equals more noise which aparantley increases the amount of fish raised as the noise stirs them up, can you shed any light on this with your experience?

Got-None.......Your set up for bill fishing on the east coast with those monster reels. Penn Inter 80W is the second biggest reel in the Penn Inter range.......upside it will never out muscle u lol

U buy all those reels new or second hand?

bottom bashing bloke i went the full hog and got the internation 80 tw its got the wide spool, its bigger then my trailer winch

id be keen on the fff trip 86 subject to weather :surf:

i think my new setups are a bit big and heavy so now im thinking maybe a couple of tld50's or international 50's might be the go...... silly part was the 80tw i got was cheaper then the 50's on flebay

Stick with the 80's mate but load them up with say 40/50lbs test mono (what they load up with for comps cause its cheap n rated. Then you cant use the winch as a winch more of a big line capacity reel and then you gotta work for a living.....id suggest a chest harness/rig with gimbal 2 support the weight of the combo

great work mate, Just out of interest, how far from land do you need to go to find billies? and what size boat where you out in? I live in WA so have no idea about the offshore fishing up there.

Yeah Doug, when we had him close to the boat I reckon about 8-9 feet, 2.5m plus easy!! Body

Puts him about the right size, when he first came out of the water he looked huge, they always do!!, but got a better guide on his size when he was cruising along 10 metres or so from the boat on the surface.

Hi Webby, this fish was hooked at Sail City, approx 15km - 20km from the coast, only in 15-20m of water.
Have seen a good sized Black before closer in to the Perons, probably only 10km offshore in 15m!
