Billfishing in the Pilbara 29-30 August
Well it's been a while since i've been fishing and had anything worthwhile to post about but finally managed to get back on the water for a decent crack with faulksy over the weekend!
The weather gods smiled on us and the ever present pilbara gale force winds abated and we got 2 days nice calm weather so decided to take Destination Unknown out for her first crack at a billfish.
Not knowing what to expect we headed out on sunday morning at a leisurely hour. We caught some livies on the way out wide but decided to begin trolling lures. Not having much luck with those we decided to drown a couple of live baits and see what happened. Turned out to be nothing but after seeing a couple caught we were keen to have another crack on monday.
Woke up a bit earlier on Monday and got on the water at a decent hour. Got some livies and headed straight out wide and decided to try the live baiting straight up. We missed an early shot but a short time later i hooked up
Half an hour later this beautiful black marlin made it to the boat. there were high fives and smiles all round and we were pretty pumped !
A short while later Faulksy hooked up to something.
During a dance across the water it revealed itself to be a nice sailfish. It was landed and had a quick photo taken before swimming off well.
Towards the end of the day we decided we were both happy and were about to head back to camp when my bait was nailed. A short fight and another black marlin was at the boat.
It was a day of firsts for both of us with me having never caught a black marlin and coming home with 2 while Faulksy had never caught a sailfish and he got to tick it off as well! Now he'd like to catch a black marlin and I'd like to catch a sailfish! So to say we were happy with our day would be an understatement!

Mate 2 blacks and a sail all in 1 day.
Must say that Pete sounded rather happy on the phone
I am realy keen to get over there now...lets hope that they hang around for a few more weeks

Stoked to have caught my first Sail . Lyss did an awesome job lifting the bigger black that she caught, it went deep and with no harness and a light rod getting its head up was a challenge.

Hi there!
Nice to get some good news from you two!
It seems that the fishing is pretty good on your side of the water.
I am yet to catch a billfish, but one day it will happen, hopefully...
Have a good day,
Pecheur

Great work Guys, You must really be enjoying the place now. I know what you will be doing on your next days off.
The first pic is a cracka, it looks you are hooked up to the big red ship.
